We had the most beautiful weather this weekend. Sunny, high 70s, no humidity - just perfect. It was a family-style weekend as we didn't have a bunch of running around and events to go to. Very relaxing indeed.
Saturday we went grocery shopping - a weekly weekend activity that we all enjoy. I especially like to charm all the other shoppers with my winning smile. What used to be a quick stop for my parents before, now takes a lot longer due to all the conversation I seem to generate. They don't seem to mind telling people over and over how old I am, agreeing that yes I am a beautiful baby and then going on and on about my amazing abilities. Mommy and I took a little nap in the afternoon. Afterwards, Mommy put some water in a container and threw in a bunch of toys and we splashed each other on a big blanket in the back yard. We were both pretty wet by the end of it! Then Daddy went to play his bass with some friends at an event, so Mommy and I took a nice long walk to the park and I got to swing - I'm really enjoying that swing.
Sunday we went to early mass at church (I woke up at 4:30am, so we were all up anyway). I'm starting to join in with the congregation when they sing, and sometimes I just babble loudly during the quiet times too. I don't know why people around us chuckle about that... Then we stopped at the Dollar store and CVS on the way home. We bought some bubble stuff and a blow up swimming pool that I had a lot of fun with IN THE HOUSE as Mommy was blowing it up.
Here's a movie clip showing how much fun I have with bubbles:
Here I am trying to get IN the pool as Mommy is trying to blow it up:
And then I just give up and suck on my lower lip in anticipation:
It was too cool outside to actually get in, so we're saving it for the next humid day.
Mommy and I took a POWER NAP in the afternoon, almost 3 hours. I guess I've been tiring Mommy out, these are the first big naps she's had since she returned to work the end of March. Plus, my waking up at 4:30am had something to do with it too. Hope she's more rested now.
Then, Daddy fired up the grill and Mommy and I were playing on the screened-in porch - she tried reading the Sunday paper at the same time, but I kept trying to grab it. We all ate together for the first time at the picnic table on the porch. Mommy put a blob of sweet potato puree on my high chair tray, a bib on me, and let me have at it. I actually didn't eat much of it except when sucking my hands that were covered with it - as was the tray - and the rest of me - and the chair. But hey, at least we all were together at the table! All in all a very nice weekend for sure.
I had my 6 month checkup on Wed 7/18/07 (though, truly, I AM 6 1/2 months old now). All is well and I'm doing great. I'm now 28 inches long which puts me in the 95th percentile for height and 16lbs 13oz which puts me in the 55th percentile for weight.
I've also started swallowing a little bit more of my cereal and find I prefer the oatmeal variety over rice. The key is letting me hold the spoon as it's guided to my mouth. This will greatly reduce the amount of raspberrying that goes on, so it's worth letting me get some control over it!
We found those old Alphabet Blocks that Mommy and Daddy used to play with when they were my age at a flea market last Saturday (7/15/07). Here I am playing with them. I love when someone stacks them up and then I can come in and knock them down. It's great fun. Oh, and don't worry, Mommy cleaned em up real good for me since I love to chew everything.
Here I am in mid knock-down:
And then afterwards - total oblivion of structure:
I had some fun yesterday morning when Mommy was trying to learn her music for church. She's going to be a cantor and got a chance to sing some harmony with the cantor yesterday (7/15/07) for practice. I was singing along with her and eventually she let me join in on the piano. I think I'm quite good...
Here's a clip of Herbie giving me some love last Monday (7/9/07). He likes to rub my face and lick my head. I really enjoy this and I like grabbing his fur too. He's quite patient of me, that's what my parents are always saying anyway...
They started to feed me about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I gotta tell ya, I'm not real interested. I guess at 6 months I'm supposed to be, but for now, I more enjoy blowing raspberries as I eat my rice cereal than actually swallowing the goopy stuff. Mommy even made me my own sweet potatoes, not from a jar, and I just didn't want it. For now, they're sticking with the cereal stuff. I guess eventually I'll want to eat it, but for now, I like watching their frustration :-)
I think this picture captures my attitude about it all pretty well. "Go ahead, just try to get that spoon in my mouth..."
It should be obvious that this picture was taken BEFORE the feeding on Saturday (7/14/07). You should see what I look like afterwards. There is always more cereal on me, the bib, the chair and whoever is feeding me. You see, rice cereal has a tendency to travel quite far when being blown about by raspberries! It's all fun to me.
Grandy was moved out of intensive care. We are just awaiting results of tests to see what's next, but he'd doing much better. Thanks for all the prayers!
Hi everyone, I'd like to ask you to all pray for my Grandy - Jim Zimmerman. He is in the hospital with pneumonia. He's such a healthy guy, so this is quite a shock. He had a cold/fever for about a week and went into the hospital on Friday 7/6. He's very tired and weak and having some trouble breathing. Last night, his blood pressure dropped and they moved him to intensive care. We would appreciate a lot of prayer right now for his pressure to come back up and his body to get back the strength he needs. Thank you!
Look at me, I'm almost crawling. I'm pretty strong too - can hold my whole body up with my arms and toes. Now if I could just get up on my knees, I'd be rolling. Here I am trying to get to our robotic cat (no, 2 live cats are not enough):
Yep, I hit the half year mark today! I also tasted my first food yesterday - Rice Cereal. I enjoyed it and got to sit in my high chair too. So, happy 1/2 year birthday to me:
We took a day trip yesterday (Wed 7/4) to the Choo Choo Barn in Strasburg PA (only about 20 minutes away). Daddy used to go there all the time as a kid with his MeMaw. He took Mommy there on one of their early dates back in 1996. Now it was my turn - so I know I'm very special to him :-) Mommy had the day off, so we had a lot of fun. The website states: "Our 1,700 square foot train features over 150 hand-built animated figures and vehicles and 22 operating trains…we guarantee the Choo Choo Barn is like nothing you've ever seen!" Here are some pictures and video of our visit:
My Daddy LOVES fireworks! I mean he REALLY LOVES fireworks! Each year, he gathers friends and family together at hid Dad's house (where he grew up) in Intercourse PA (yeah I know, funny name for a town). This year, his friend, Mike, also brought some of his stash. Together, they put on a show that lasted 2 1/2 hours! I even slept through some of it - but it was a great show.
Here I am waiting for nightfall and the festivities to begin. I fit into a pair of sneakers a friend gave Mommy - this picture shows them to you:
And a close up shot of my dress just for the occasion (garage sale find!):
Here is Mike and his wife Amanda's cute daughter Kylie. Boy, can't wait until I can stand up and walk around like she does. She's 15mos old and giving me instruction on the finer points of the newfound skills:
A close up of Kylie:
Although my country is in a lot of turmoil right now with war, terrorism, etc., I'm still pretty lucky to live in a FREE country. Let's all celebrate the birth of that freedom :-)
